Welford Village Profile
Welford is a thriving , bustling community lying on the Leicestershire - Northamptonshire border, which is proud of it's long heritage.
The village was in being during the Roman occupation of England as archeological excavations in the fields surrounding the present village have found evidence of farming from that time. Welford, or Wellesford as it was known at the time of the Domesday Book, grew into a small town with it's own Market Cross and Charter and over the centuries it prospered. The village became quite prominent during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries as it lay on the main coaching road between Northampton and Leicester. The church of St. Mary the Virgin in the village dates back to the 1300's and today holds registers chronicling the lives of the villagers from 1561.
Welford is close to both the M1 and M6 motorways and is one and a half miles north of Junction1 of the A14 which connects with the east of England.
The Doctors Surgery is located at the village hall on Tuesday and Thursday mornings or at the Husbands Bosworth Surgery at any other time
Dentists can be found locally in both Kibworth and Market Harborough.

There are two churches in the village, St. Mary the Virgin C. of E. Parish Church and also The Congregational Chapel There is an RC Church in nearby Lutterworth
There is a village shop and Post Office, a hairdresser, a garage and two pubs. There is also a well used village hall and sports field. The Welford Bugle is published for the villagers to keep them aware of the numerous social events, activities and news about the area.

The village has leisure and sports clubs that cater for all from the Cubs, Beavers and Scouts to Guides and an Investment Club. There is also an active Mother's Union group and a Watercolourists group.
Sports are also well represented with a Ladies Rounders Team, Table Tennis, a Cricket Club, Short Mat Bowls, a Riding Club and a Tennis Club. There are also football and rugby clubs in the local area including Welford Victoria Football Club.
Welford is in an area of Leicestershire / Northamptonshire which prides itself on the number of gastropubs, restaurants and hotels which rely on locally sourced produce for their menus. Kibworth Hall Hotel is close by with it's award winning restaurants and it's open air theatre each summer which attracts many visitors.
